Second World Summit of the Committees of the future 2023
We are at a historic turning point as the Inter-Parliamentary Union and its member nation-states commit to increasing their domain knowledge and capacities to embed and use #anticipatorygovernance and #artificialintelligence to imagine and explore alternative future worlds of parliaments, democracies, and democratic institutions. I am truly honored to be invited to speak at the plenary, provide feedback on the design curation, and help facilitate two multi-lingual futures workshop sessions to discuss AGI and its implications to the current agenda and future of parliaments, including the opportunities, risks, and threats and harness energies, ideas, and optimism to support the declaration of creating Committees of the Future in all of the nation’s parliament IPU members and more.
It was great working with Jerome Glenn Clement (Clem) Bezold Ted Fuller, and my sincere super awesome congratulations to Lydia Garrido Luzardo for her leadership and for putting all of these together. The Second World Summit of the Committees of the Future occurred in Montevideo, Uruguay, from September 25 to 27, 2023.
Here is a snapshot of the Second Summit of the Committees of the Future:
– Over 300 parliamentarians, experts, and practitioners from 70 parliaments worldwide gathered to discuss the future of democracy, human rights, and society.
– The focus of the Summit was on enhancing our “use of the future,” including foresight, and how to embrace the potential impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on our world.
-Parliamentarians, experts, academics, and representatives from leading AI development companies, civil society stakeholders, and influential international organizations engaged in workshops and plenary sessions marked by intense exchanges.
– The outcome? A declaration that paves the way for a more informed and forward-thinking approach to shaping our future.
– We are taking steps to ensure that AI and other emerging technologies contribute positively to our democratic systems, human rights, and society.
